1964 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III
Four distinctive headlamps replaced the traditional twin-lamp arrangement when Rolls-Royce updated their flagship luxury sedan for its final iteration in late 1962. The Silver Cloud III represented the culmination of continuous development that began with the original Silver Cloud in 1955, incorporating refined details while maintaining the model’s classic proportions.
Visual updates included the new frontal lighting configuration and subtle trim revisions, though the basic bodywork remained largely unchanged from earlier versions. Two-tone paint schemes and chrome brightwork emphasized the car’s stately presence.
Mechanical improvements focused on the 6.2-liter aluminum V-8 engine, which received higher 9.0:1 compression and larger S.U. carburetors for an estimated increase of about 20 horsepower over the Silver Cloud II. The four-speed automatic transmission, power-assisted brakes, and standard radio and heater completed the luxury equipment.
Production totaled 2,809 units through 1966, with only 1,072 configured for left-hand drive markets. This final Silver Cloud generation marked the end of separate chassis construction before Rolls-Royce adopted unitary body design with the Silver Shadow.
