This bird makes one of the strangest sounds in the rainforest — like a distant cow mooing through the trees.
Deep in the Amazon rainforest, the Capuchinbird sits high in the canopy with a shaggy crest and pale buff plumage that make it look more like a mysterious creature than a typical tropical bird. Males gather at display sites called leks, where they call endlessly to attract females, their haunting voices echoing across the forest.
It feeds mostly on fruits, swallowing them whole and carrying seeds far through the jungle. In doing so, it quietly helps regenerate the rainforest, spreading new life across vast stretches of canopy.
