This bird collects blue objects to build one of the most fascinating displays in the animal kingdom.
In the forests and woodlands of eastern Australia, the Satin Bowerbird spends countless hours arranging twigs into a carefully crafted avenue called a bower. Around it, the male gathers berries, feathers, flowers, shells, and even bits of plastic — almost always in shades of blue.
What makes it extraordinary is its sense of presentation. The bird constantly reorganizes and decorates its display to impress visiting females, creating a scene that feels more like an art installation than a nest. The bower itself is not used for raising chicks — it exists purely for courtship.
A collector, designer, and illusionist of the forest, yet one of nature’s most remarkable artists.
