1930 Cadillac V-16 Imperial Sedan
This 1930 Cadillac V-16 Imperial belonged to none other than Al Capone, and it’s built like a fortress. Modified by Fleetwood with 1/4″ steel armor and 5-ply laminated glass, it features special port holes in the windows that weren’t just for ventilation.
Capone, Chicago’s most notorious gangster, needed this level of protection at the height of his power. As head of “The Outfit,” he controlled much of Chicago’s illegal liquor trade during Prohibition, though he preferred negotiation to violence when possible. Still, frequent assassination attempts made armored vehicles a necessity.
This particular Cadillac offered the perfect combination of luxury, power, and protection. Its massive V-16 engine could handle the weight of all that armor, while still providing the comfort befitting a crime boss who wore fine suits and lived in luxury hotels.
