1932 Ford Model 18 V-8 Deluxe Roadster
Ford made automotive history in 1932 by introducing its first V-8 engine to the masses at an affordable price. The Model 18 featured a 221 cubic inch flathead V-8 producing 65 horsepower, paired with a three-speed manual transmission. This powerplant would remain in Ford’s lineup, in various forms, for the next 21 years.
Edsel Ford influenced the body design, with a distinctive vee-shaped radiator shell and crowned fenders giving the roadster a sporty appearance. The Deluxe Roadster came with a rumble seat and could be optioned with dual side-mount spares, cowl lights, and trunk racks. The car weighed about 2,380 pounds (1,080 kg).
The ’32 Ford became foundational to hot rod culture, with roadsters particularly sought after for modification. This popularity means authentically restored examples are now quite rare. The car’s combination of accessible V-8 performance and attractive styling made it an icon of early 1930s motoring.
