1959 Ford Fairlane 500

The 1959 model year was the final year of the full-size Ford body generation introduced in 1957, and mid-year brought a new Galaxie series above the Fairlane 500 in the hierarchy. The 500 remained a well-appointed upper-tier offering on Ford’s 118-inch wheelbase, dressed in the wide horizontal chrome, quad headlights, and prominent tailfins that defined late-1950s American full-size design.

Indian Turquoise (factory code D) was a period-correct 1959 Fairlane color, and the Indian Turquoise and White two-tone combination (divided by a bright chrome beltline molding) was among the bolder pairings offered that year, carrying through to the matching vinyl interior.

The 332 CI FE V8, introduced in 1958 as the smallest member of Ford’s new FE family, was rated at 240 horsepower in two-barrel form. Both the 332 and 352 CI versions were available in Ford passenger cars in 1958 and 1959.

Drive reaches the rear wheels through the two-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission, with the shifter on the column. Ford produced 159,699 Fairlane 500 models for the 1959 model year, against total Ford division output of more than 1.4 million vehicles.
