This bird rarely stays still for more than a few seconds.
In the coastal heathlands and flowering forests of Australia, the New Holland Honeyeater darts rapidly between blossoms with endless energy. Its black-and-white plumage flashes through the shrubs while bright yellow wing panels flicker in the sunlight.
It feeds on nectar, insects, and tiny spiders, using its brush-tipped tongue to reach deep into flowers. As it moves from bloom to bloom, it becomes an important pollinator, helping native plants reproduce across some of Australia’s harshest landscapes.
A restless spark among the flowers, yet a vital messenger between the blossoms.
