1960 Pontiac Catalina Convertible
The 1960 Pontiac Catalina Convertible represented Pontiac’s entry-level full-size offering, positioned above Chevrolet’s Impala with a longer wheelbase, distinctive styling, and a richer level of trim. Its convertible top mechanism and chrome brightwork gave it added flair compared to more basic models in the lineup.
Manual transmissions were exceptionally rare in these vehicles, with 97% of all 1960 Pontiacs equipped with automatic transmissions. The standard three-speed manual column-shift is an uncommon find among collectors today.
Pontiac’s 389 cubic inch V8 engine provided the Catalina with substantial performance capability. The optional Tri-Power carburetor setup delivered 348 horsepower, giving drivers significantly more power than many competing models in its class.
Available features included power brakes, power steering, power convertible top, air conditioning, and the Safe-T-Track limited-slip differential. The interior showcased distinctive patterned upholstery that gave the Catalina a stylish look, helping it stand out despite being Pontiac’s entry-level full-size model.
