High in the ancient rainforests of Southeast Asia, the Helmeted Hornbill moves through the canopy with deep, echoing calls that carry for miles. Unlike other hornbills, its massive casque is nearly solid, turning its head into a living battering ram.
Males sometimes engage in dramatic aerial clashes, flying directly at one another and colliding casque-first with explosive force. Despite this brutal behavior, the bird mainly feeds on figs and other fruits, playing a crucial role in spreading rainforest seeds across vast distances.
