Deep in the tropical forests of South America, the Golden-headed Manakin flashes through the understory like a living spark of black and gold. The male’s velvet-black body contrasts dramatically with its brilliant golden head, glowing in the dim jungle light.
During courtship, groups of males gather on display perches and perform rapid, almost mechanical dances — hopping, snapping their wings, and sliding across branches at astonishing speed to impress females.
It feeds mainly on fruits and small insects, quietly helping disperse seeds throughout the rainforest while hidden between performances.
