This bird looks like it walked straight out of a royal painting.
In the misty mountain forests of southwestern China and Myanmar, the Lady Amherst’s Pheasant glides through the undergrowth with astonishing elegance. The male wears a dazzling combination of emerald green, crimson, sapphire blue, and a dramatic white cape striped with black. Its impossibly long tail trails behind like embroidered silk across the forest floor.
During courtship, the male spreads its ornate cape around its body, creating a hypnotic shield of patterns and color to impress a mate. Despite its extravagant appearance, it spends much of its time quietly foraging for seeds, roots, berries, and insects beneath the canopy.
A living masterpiece hidden in the mountain forests, yet one of the most spectacular pheasants on Earth.
