This bird can outrun many predators without needing to fly.

Across the deserts and scrublands of North America, the Greater Roadrunner races over the ground with astonishing speed, using its long tail for balance and its powerful legs to chase insects, lizards, and even small snakes.

Unlike most birds, it spends much of its life on foot, weaving through cactus and dry brush with sharp precision. It can leap into the air to catch prey and even slam dangerous animals like snakes against rocks before swallowing them whole.

A fearless runner of the desert floor, yet one of the wildest hunters of the American Southwest.
