1934 Buick Series 66C Convertible

The convertible coupe body style offered by Buick’s Series 60 in 1934 came with a rumble seat and occupied the midpoint of GM’s carefully arranged brand ladder (above Oldsmobile, below LaSalle).

With a 128-inch wheelbase and a long hood that left little ambiguity about what lay underneath, the 66C carried a formal, upright presence characteristic of early-thirties American design.

Power came from a 278ci overhead-valve inline-eight producing 100 horsepower at 3,200rpm, paired with a three-speed synchromesh manual and a floor-mounted shifter.

Underneath, GM’s “Knee-Action” independent front suspension handled the front wheels while a solid rear axle managed the back, with mechanical drum brakes at all four corners.

Harlow Curtice, who took over as Buick president in 1933, prioritized more performance at lower cost, and the Series 60 delivered on that directive (carrying genuine straight-eight refinement at an original price of around $1,375).

Buick produced just 235 examples of the 66C Convertible Coupe, making it among the rarest body styles in the Series 60 lineup, which totaled 14,014 units across all variants for the model year.
