1960 Pontiac Catalina Safari Wagon (in Sierra Copper Metallic)
Station wagon buyers in 1960 could choose the Catalina Safari, which featured distinctive single round taillights unique among Pontiac’s full-size lineup.
Measuring about 214 inches long and 80 inches wide, the wagon showcased horizontal character lines running the length of its body, paired with a wrap-around windshield and a full-width horizontal-bar grille that replaced 1959’s split design.
Nine-passenger versions came equipped with rear-facing third-row seats and a power rear window, while six-passenger models were also available.
Under the hood sat Pontiac’s 389 cubic-inch V8, paired with a four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. Buyers seeking more performance could opt for the Tri-Power setup with three two-barrel carburetors, rated at 318 horsepower.
The Safari rode on Pontiac’s Wide-Track chassis with a 122-inch wheelbase, contributing to its stable handling. These wagons are now quite rare to find, especially in original condition.
