The 1959 Frisky Family Three Convertible proves that not all post-war microcars had to look like rolling shoeboxes. This charming three-wheeler, born from an ambitious project that started in Egypt of all places, combines Italian style (thanks to designer Giovanni Michelotti) with British microcar ingenuity.
Powered by a tiny 197cc Villiers motorcycle engine, this peculiar convertible could be driven with just a motorcycle license – perfect for those who couldn’t decide between two wheels or four (or in this case, three). The sky-blue example featured here started life as a closed-roof model before someone decided it needed more vitamin D and converted it into a unique drop-top version.
With only 75 Friskys of all types known to survive from about 1,500 built, these quirky British microcars are about as rare as hen’s teeth. This one’s custom convertible transformation makes it even more special – think of it as the world’s smallest luxury convertible, minus most of the luxury. And one wheel.
