This bird is incredibly tiny for a woodpecker, with a body size not much bigger than a golf ball compared to many larger relatives. Even with its small size, this bird still climbs tree trunks and pecks into bark searching for ants, larvae, and tiny insects hidden inside wood. This bird usually stays in forests and wooded areas across South America, quietly moving through branches much faster than people expect.
