1974 Datsun 260Z ‘Super Samuri’
Spike Anderson’s Samuri Motor Company created one of the most sought-after modified Z-cars of the 1970s with this rare conversion.
Only two 260Zs received the Super Samuri treatment from Anderson’s Croughton workshop (out of about 75 Super Samuri Z-cars in total), making this example exceptionally scarce among performance-modified Japanese sports cars.
The aggressive exterior featured a deep chin spoiler and period roll hoop that announced serious intent, while upgraded vented disc brakes with four-piston calipers replaced the standard braking system.
Anderson’s racing background at Broadspeed translated into significant mechanical improvements. The 2.6-liter (159 ci) straight-six received a gas-flowed cylinder head and triple 48mm Dellorto carburetors that substantially increased power output over the stock 165-horsepower rating. Competition suspension components completed the performance package.
This particular car competed in motorsport during the late 1970s and early 1980s before spending 25 years in storage. Anderson himself confirmed its authenticity after rediscovering the original red paint beneath a later black finish.
The subsequent bare-shell restoration by marque specialist Z-Farm preserved the modifications that made these conversions legendary among enthusiasts seeking serious performance from Datsun’s sports car platform.
