This duck can inflate a strange flap beneath its bill to create deep, booming calls.

The Musk Duck is an unusual diving duck native to southern Australia. Males use their large leathery throat lobe during the breeding season to produce loud displays that echo across wetlands. Excellent underwater swimmers, they feed on aquatic insects, crustaceans, and other small prey.

One of the world’s most extraordinary ducks, proving that the wildest courtship performances often happen far from the spotlight.
