This duck nests high inside tree cavities instead of on the ground.
The Wood Duck inhabits wooded swamps, ponds, rivers, and marshes across North America. Soon after hatching, the tiny ducklings leap fearlessly from tree nests that can be over 50 feet (15 meters) above the ground, bouncing safely below before following their mother to the water.
