This dove carries one of the most unusual feather designs in the bird world.
The Cloven-feathered Dove is a rare pigeon found only in the rainforests of Samoa. Unlike almost every other bird, the feathers on its neck appear split or “cloven,” giving them a distinctive textured look. It spends much of its time high in the forest canopy, feeding on fruits and helping disperse seeds that support the island’s native forests.
A mysterious treasure of the Pacific, proving that even the smallest details can make a bird truly one of a kind.
