Missouri Shelter Workers Found A Sealed Box Outside Their Door With A Note Inside Revealing The Heartbreaking Reason Why

A quiet day at a Missouri animal shelter suddenly turned into a race against time when staff members spotted a sealed cardboard box left outside.

At first, it looked like an unusual drop off. But as they moved closer, a frightening thought began to sink in.

Something living could be trapped inside.

The box had been covered with tape, making it impossible to see what was hidden within.

The situation became even more concerning when shelter workers realized there was no way of knowing how long the box had been sitting there or whether whoever was inside had enough air.

The discovery happened at Stray Rescue of St. Louis when a volunteer noticed the abandoned package while walking a dog near the shelter.

The ordinary looking box immediately caught their attention because it seemed completely out of place.

Then they noticed a handwritten note resting on top.

The message explained that two young stray cats were inside.

The person who left them behind apologized and explained that they could no longer care for them because their apartment did not allow pets. The note said:

“Found [two] strays. They are about 4 5 months old. Sorry for just dropping them off, but I can’t keep them due to my apartment not allowing pets.”

But there was one major problem. The box was tightly sealed shut.

Shelter staff knew they had to act quickly. Their biggest fear was that the cats inside might already be in danger after being trapped without proper ventilation.

“The box was taped up so tightly that we rushed them inside and opened it as quickly as we could, worried that whoever was inside would have suffocated,” Natalie Thomson, the shelter’s chief communications officer explained.

Every second mattered as the tape was pulled away.

When the box was finally opened, everyone waiting nearby received the news they were hoping for.

Two scared cats appeared, alive and ready to escape the frightening space they had been left in.

The kittens were shaken by what had happened, but they were safe.

After being examined, the cats were found to be in surprisingly good health.

Veterinarians estimated they were around seven months old, slightly older than the note had suggested, and thankfully had no serious injuries from the experience.

Despite the upsetting way they arrived, the two cats quickly showed their gentle personalities.

Instead of hiding away, they welcomed attention from the shelter team and seemed to understand they were finally somewhere safe.

The staff decided to give them names that matched the unusual circumstances of their rescue.

They called the pair Amazon and Prime, a playful reference to the cardboard box that had carried them to the shelter.

Although the shelter team was relieved that the cats survived, they were also saddened by how close the situation came to becoming a tragedy.

Leaving animals behind can be dangerous, especially when they are placed somewhere without proper care or protection.

Thankfully, Amazon and Prime did not have to wait long before someone stepped forward to help them.

A foster family opened their home to the cats, giving them the chance to leave behind the frightening memory of their arrival.

In their new environment, the pair began exploring, relaxing, and enjoying the comfort they had been missing.

Their story started with fear and uncertainty, but it quickly became one of hope.

What could have been a heartbreaking discovery became a second chance for two cats who only needed someone to give them a little care.

Now, Amazon and Prime are waiting for the next chapter of their lives. The shelter hopes they will eventually find a permanent family where they can spend their days feeling safe, loved, and protected.

For the two cats found inside a taped up box, a terrifying beginning has turned into the possibility of a happy ending.
