The Southern Ground Hornbill is one of the world’s largest hornbills, roaming the grasslands and open woodlands of sub-Saharan Africa. Living in cooperative family groups, they work together to hunt snakes, lizards, insects, small mammals, and other prey on the ground. Their deep, booming calls can carry for several kilometers, echoing across the landscape at dawn.
