This tiny waterbird looks like a miniature duck dressed for a tropical parade.
The African Pygmy Goose is one of the smallest waterfowl in the world, found across sub-Saharan Africa and Madagascar. Despite its name, it belongs to a group of waterfowl closely related to ducks. Males display striking patterns of green, chestnut, black, and white, while females have more subtle plumage. These agile swimmers feed mainly on the seeds and other parts of aquatic plants, often gliding quietly across ponds covered in floating vegetation.
A little jewel of Africa’s wetlands, proving that some of the most extraordinary waterbirds come in surprisingly small packages.
