Drive-Thru Customers Ignore Dog Sleeping Under Menu For Months On End

Pulling up to your favorite fast food restaurant, you’re usually met with a mouthwatering display of food pictures, each more tempting than the last. It’s hard to choose when there are so many options, but what if something unexpected greeted you instead of just food?

That’s exactly what happened last month in California’s Los Angeles County. A hungry customer entered their usual drive-thru line and saw something that wasn’t part of the menu — a matted clump of fur resting beneath the display screen.

The Forgotten Pup

Suzette Hall

Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, a local dog rescue, received an urgent call for help. When Hall and her team arrived, they found a small abandoned dog curled up and sleeping around the restaurant.

“He would lay under the restaurant sign, he would lay under the drive-thru,” Hall shared on Facebook. “He had his favorite bush and his favorite palm tree, and he would lay there.”

The team spoke to a security guard who revealed the heartbreaking reality of the dog’s past. For three long months, he lived in a shopping center on two busy streets, isolated and afraid. The only comfort he found was the food the security guard would bring him.

“For three months, he lived in a shopping center right by two busy streets, lonely and afraid,” Hall wrote. “Security would feed him.”

A Difficult Rescue Mission

Hall’s team set up traps with delicious treats, hoping to lure the dog into safety. However, the plan was harder to execute than anticipated due to the constant flow of people around the restaurant.

“This was such a hard rescue; people kept showing up and chasing him,” Hall explained. “He wouldn’t go near my traps. We would move traps to one of his favorite spots, and he would go to his other favorite spot.”

After hours of frustration, the team decided to call it a night and regroup for the morning.

“We were determined and exhausted, but so was he,” Hall wrote. “He deserved to be safe…”

The Breakthrough

The next morning, while the pup was peacefully asleep, two volunteers came up with a new plan. Quietly and carefully, they approached him with a blanket, using it as a net to catch him off guard.

“Yamileth and Karla snuck up quietly [and used] a blanket as a net,” Hall said. “They got him.”

The team rushed Coconut, as he was now named, to Camino Pet Hospital, where he received a full medical check-up and a much-needed makeover.

With most of his matted fur shaved off, Coconut finally experienced his first sleep in a real bed in months.

Coconut’s Transformation

It’s been just over a week since Coconut was rescued, and he looks like a completely different dog. He’s still searching for his forever home, but for now, he’s living his best life as a foster dog.

On a recent trip to the beach, Coconut’s gratitude for his new life was unmistakable.

“He loved the smell and watching the water,” Hall shared in a Facebook update. “His smile afterward showed me how happy he was to go to the beach, to see new things, and [to] feel loved.”
