Passerby Hears Desperate Cries From Abandoned Laundromat, Discovers Two Starving Puppies Trapped in a Pit

As an animal rescuer, you never know where your next mission will take you. You can never fully prepare for the unexpected, especially when the situation is as shocking as this one.

A passerby walking near an abandoned laundromat in Indiana didn’t expect to find anything unusual. But loud, desperate cries from inside drew them in, leading them to discover an unimaginable scene in a pit on the floor…

Eyes Full of Despair Peering from the Darkness

Two pairs of heartbroken eyes were all that could be seen as the passerby approached the pit. Upon closer inspection, they found two extremely malnourished Pitties—trapped, waiting for help they hadn’t known would come.

The passerby immediately called for assistance.

In just minutes, animal control officer Mari and volunteers Kelly and Jay from Silverstray Social arrived on the scene in Gary, Indiana.

Even seasoned rescuers like them were taken aback by the sight. The pups were clearly neglected for a long time—too weak to stand and covered in painful wounds.

“Two innocent dogs suffering, trapped in a pit—abandoned, starving, and clinging to life,” wrote the Silverstray Social team. “Silverstray and Gary Animal Control pulled them from the depths of despair.”

Finally seeing daylight, the pups wagged their tails, grateful for the care they would now receive. After what felt like an eternity, they had a meal, and though they had no tags or microchips to trace their past, their new journey was just beginning.

Thankfully, they wouldn’t have to wait long for a fresh start.

A Beautiful New Beginning

The pups, later named Cheer and Suds, received the vet treatment they desperately needed. Their malnutrition required intensive care, and the volunteers gave them all the love and attention they had been missing.

Once they had healed, something wonderful awaited them. Instead of returning to animal control, Cheer and Suds were placed in foster homes, a huge step toward their new life.

“After who knows how long they were trapped in that hole, starving and clinging to life, they will finally know comfort—and sleep on soft, warm beds,” Silverstray Social wrote in an update post.

Thanks to the dedicated team of rescuers and the amazing community support, Cheer and Suds are well on their way to recovery.

They will get to experience the love and care they missed out on—socializing with people and other dogs and feeling what it’s like to be cared for. When the time is right, they’ll find their forever homes, where they will be loved and never abandoned again.
