One black Labrador found herself in just such a predicament, completely caught off guard when her tongue touched what she assumed was plain water.
The Look Said It All
A short video on @theblacklabrador_poppy’s Instagram quickly drew the attention of followers and for a good reason.
In it, Poppy, a curious black Lab, can’t help but give the mysterious liquid in her owner’s cup a try.
At first, she’s happily lapping it up, likely thinking it’s just plain water.
But within seconds, her head jerks back, and she takes on a cautious stance as if the cup had a bite of its own!
She backs away in protest, casting a side-eye that practically screams, “What’s this spicy stuff?” Turns out, it was just water—but the sparkling kind.
In the video, Poppy made her opinion crystal clear—no need for Mom and Dad to waste money on that stuff! She’d much rather stick her head under the faucet any day.
Dad Was to Blame
Jaclyn Littrup, Poppy’s owner from Michigan, shared that her husband, Gerrit, was sipping on some sparkling water in the now-famous Instagram clip, making him the “guilty party” behind Poppy’s hilarious reaction.
“Poppy is naturally curious, so of course, she had to check it out. She was sniffing around because she’s always interested in what we’re having,” Jaclyn explained to Newsweek.
Eventually, Gerrit couldn’t resist Poppy’s persistent begging and gave her a little taste in a bottle cap. Jaclyn fondly remembers the moment: “She took a lick, and, well, sparkling water is definitely not her thing!”
Jaclyn shared that Poppy is a little food fanatic, and mealtime is pure excitement for her.
“Whether we’re grabbing a snack, opening the fridge, or starting to cook, she’s right there, ready to see if she can snag a taste. Poppy wants a bite of everything we have. Sometimes, we have to tell her no,” Jaclyn explained with a laugh.
Her love for food even inspired last Halloween’s costume—Poppy rocked a hamburger outfit!
By the time Halloween rolls around again, they might just have to hunt down a costume shaped like a giant sparkling water bottle!
Her Reaction Delighted Followers
Poppy has her own spot on Instagram and TikTok, where this charming black Lab from Michigan has gathered a solid fanbase.
But this particular video? It turned her into a sensation overnight! Her followers couldn’t get enough of her hilarious reaction, showering her with likes and comments.
“That side eye, though—so cute!” one fan gushed.
Another commenter quipped, “It tastes like TV static, doesn’t it?!”
One mom shared, “When my daughter was little, she’d shout, ‘Too many bubbles tickle my brain!’” And that’s probably exactly what Poppy was feeling at that moment—just without the words to say it.
