A Heartbreaking Discovery

One evening, an employee at an Omaha accounting firm heard unusual sounds coming from a dumpster.

Initially, she thought it might be a raccoon, but since it was late at night, she felt uneasy about investigating. She hoped that someone else would come along to help the stray animal.

When she returned the next morning, her heart sank at what she had discovered. It wasn’t a raccoon at all—it was an innocent, frightened puppy, wrapped in duct tape.

His entire head was completely wrapped in duct tape, and his back legs were stuck together. Even his tail was taped up, leaving him in a distressing state, with food and debris clinging to his fur.

Concerned by what they found, the compassionate humans quickly reached out to Animal Control to report the situation.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” shared Kevin W, one of the staff members who discovered the heartbreaking scene.

The poor pup was swiftly taken to the Nebraska Humane Society, where he received the care and assistance he desperately needed.

At Last, Safe

Upon his arrival at the Nebraska shelter, the staff gently sedated him to safely remove all the tape and debris clinging to his fur.

Due to the strength of the duct tape, they had no choice but to shave off his fur completely to ensure he was freed from its grip.

Once he was freed, the puppy’s joy was palpable. He showered his rescuers with hugs and kisses, grateful for their help.

The dedicated staff conducted a comprehensive medical examination and found that, despite some mild skin irritation, he was in perfect health overall.

Fortunately, this sweet pup had a microchip, which enabled the Nebraska Humane Society to discover his name—Leo—and connect with his relieved owners.

As it turned out, Leo’s mum reported him missing the moment he disappeared, and her heart soared with joy when he was finally returned to her arms. Yet, she struggled to comprehend how anyone could subject him to such cruelty.

“He’s the sweetest dog! I can’t understand why anyone would do this,” Erin, Leo’s mum, expressed.

Fortunately, Leo and his family can now leave this traumatic experience behind, as he is safe and sound in the warmth of his home, where he will never have to endure anything like this again!

Case Under Review

Regrettably, the dumpster where Leo was discovered is situated in a location without any surveillance cameras.

As a result, the Nebraska Humane Society is appealing to the public for help. If you have any information related to this case, please reach out to them right away.

To encourage tips, the humane society is offering a $1,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest in Leo’s case.
