Rescuers Race to Save a Motionless Dog in a Ditch, But Things Weren’t As They Seemed

Any pet lover out there will tell you that when they spot an animal in need, they’ll move heaven and earth to lend a hand.

This is especially true for those working in shelters and rescues, who dedicate their lives to helping animals in distress.

At Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue, the team is no stranger to receiving calls about animals in tight spots. Whenever such a call comes in, they grab their gear and hit the road, ready to help.

So, when multiple calls flooded in about a small dog lying motionless in a muddy ditch, face down, the rescue team didn’t hesitate. They were on their way in a flash, ready to save a life.

But what they found upon arrival wasn’t what anyone expected.

A Call for Help

The moment the first call came through, the seasoned rescuers at Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue knew they had to act fast. They piled into their vehicle, hearts racing with the urgency of the situation.

They arrived at the location within just 20 minutes and began scanning the area for the dog in distress.

But as they approached the scene, something didn’t seem right. The dog was lying perfectly still in the ditch, and yet, something felt off to the experienced team. They moved closer, carefully observing the figure from all angles, until they realized that their services weren’t actually required this time.

“It was a statue! A statue that an onsite member of staff had already rescued!” The discovery took aback the entire team. What had appeared to be a small dog in desperate need was actually just a statue, already tended to by someone on site.

While this unexpected turn of events could have been frustrating, the team couldn’t help but laugh at the situation. After all, it’s not every day that they rush to save a lifeless statue!

Despite the mix-up, the team didn’t mind at all. In fact, they were relieved. “It’s always a relief when there isn’t an injured animal to tend to,” a representative from Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue shared with The Dodo.

The Dedication of Rescuers

The team was genuinely happy that no real animal was in danger, and they appreciated the community’s vigilance in calling for help, even if it turned out to be a false alarm.

This story might have had an unexpected twist, but it also serves as a gentle reminder of just how much people care about animals. The many calls they received about the statue show that when people believe an animal is in trouble, they’re willing to step up and take action.

This “rescue” may not have gone as planned, but it’s a testament to the dedication and compassion of those who work in animal rescue.

Around the globe, countless individuals devote their time, energy, and resources to keeping animals safe, healthy, and loved. These rescuers are driven by a deep-seated belief that every animal deserves a chance at a happy life.
