1921 Heine-Velox

A rare American luxury automobile from the early 1920s, the Heine-Velox V-12 represents one of the most expensive vehicles of its time. Developed by German immigrant Gustav Heine, who made his fortune in piano manufacturing before entering the automotive field, this exclusive model cost $25,000 (about 2.5 times the price of a Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost). The V-12 featured innovative engineering including a powerful 115-horsepower twelve-cylinder engine supplied by Weidley Motors. Its distinctive low-slung appearance resulted from mounting the body directly to the chassis sides. Additional advanced features included four-wheel hydraulic brakes, storage compartments built into the fenders, and unique wooden trim around the wheel arches—a detail influenced by Heine’s background in piano construction. Only four examples were reportedly built.
