1933 Plymouth PD Deluxe Rumbleseat Convertible Coupe
During the Great Depression, Chrysler’s budget brand offered a genuine bright spot with this stylish 1933 Plymouth PD Deluxe Convertible Coupe. The newly introduced 190 cubic inch L-head six-cylinder engine replaced the previous four-cylinder powerplant, generating 70 horsepower through a floor-shifted 3-speed manual transmission. A top-of-the-line model when new, this rare convertible featured an authentic rumbleseat for additional passengers and distinctive styling touches including wire wheels and optional chrome accents.
Only 4,596 convertible coupes were produced out of 195,154 total PD models manufactured that year, making this an uncommon sight even when new. The PD series helped catapult Plymouth to third place in national automotive sales rankings, establishing the brand as a major competitor in the American market. Four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes—advanced technology for the era—provided adequate stopping power, while semi-elliptic leaf springs delivered a comfortable ride quality appropriate for family touring.
