Curious Colorado Pup Accidentally Sets His Owner’s Home On Fire

Curious Puppy Accidentally Starts Kitchen Fire, Family Saves the Day with Quick Thinking

In the world of pets, most people believe that curiosity is a trait typically associated with cats. Felines are known for their inquisitive nature, often getting into places they shouldn’t.

But today, you’ll discover that dogs, too, can let their curiosity lead them astray.

A playful puppy from Colorado decided to explore his home one morning. As he wandered through each room, sniffing every corner, he ended up in the kitchen, where his innocent curiosity took a dangerous turn.

A Furry Investigator in the Kitchen

While exploring the kitchen, this small pup noticed some boxes on the stove.

Believing that they might contain something tasty, he rose onto his hind legs, mimicking a human’s stance, and started to sniff around the boxes.

In doing so, one of his paws landed on a stove knob. Unintentionally, he turned it on.

As the stovetop began to heat, the boxes caught fire. Frightened by the sudden burst of flames, the little dog ran off in fear.

Fortunately, the pup’s family owned an Apple HomePod, which immediately alerted them with a “High Heat” warning.

The alert woke the household, and one family member rushed to the kitchen, only to find a fire starting to spread.

Acting quickly, the family member grabbed a fire extinguisher and put out the flames. After ensuring the fire was out, they contacted the Colorado Police Department for assistance.

Swift Actions and a Close Call

“Upon investigation, crews did not find any active fire but did find evidence of a fire. The male homeowner was able to extinguish the fire before crews got there but was later transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported to people or pets,” the Colorado Springs Fire Department shared in a Facebook post.

To find out how the fire had started, the family checked their security cameras. To their surprise, the footage showed their little dog innocently triggering the stove while investigating the boxes on top.

“We determined their pup got a bit curious and accidentally switched on the oven, which had some boxes on top of it,” they said.

Thankfully, no one was hurt, and the owners took away an important lesson: always keep the stove clear of any items!

The firefighters used this incident as a moment to remind everyone that such accidents are avoidable if we all take a few simple precautions.

“It’s crucial to always have working smoke detectors in every sleeping area and on all floors of your home. Make sure nothing that can catch fire is kept near your stove or oven, and always have two ways to exit every room in case of a fire,” they advised.

I’m relieved to know that the pup and his family emerged unharmed after such a close call.

But I believe this curious little dog learned an important lesson that day—sometimes, it’s best to let the cats explore things they shouldn’t!
