Beaux had always been different. Crowded in his mother’s womb with six siblings, his skull didn’t form quite right.

The first time Jamie Hulit saw his photo, something clicked. The Labrador’s creased forehead and wide-set eyes weren’t conventionally cute, but they told a story. He looked worried — unsure — but still hopeful. That was enough for Jamie. To her, he didn’t look strange. He looked like a dog worth saving.

Because of his face, breeders couldn’t sell him and ended up giving him away. The man who took him in wasn’t prepared for the responsibility.

When Beaux didn’t get along with the family’s cats, he was pushed outside and left there — year after year — with no training, no warmth, and no love.

For five long years, Beaux lived alone in that yard. Rescue groups tried to step in, but nothing ever stuck. He always ended up right back where he started — alone and forgotten.

The Day That Turned His Life Around

When Jamie finally met him in person, her heart sank. He was painfully thin, covered in fleas, and riddled with ear mites. His fur hung limp over a bony frame, and his eyes looked dull with defeat. But Jamie didn’t turn away.

She had once lived in foster care herself and knew what it meant to be overlooked. She promised he’d never be passed around again.

She adopted Beaux on the spot, not caring what health issues he might have. But his condition was worse than expected. Beaux had heartworms, and he was far too weak to start treatment. The vet gave him a 50/50 chance of survival.

Jamie didn’t hesitate. “Whatever it takes,” she said.

Beaux spent weeks in recovery, sometimes needing oxygen support. The vet called Jamie late at night, fearing he might not make it. But Beaux, just like Jamie, wasn’t ready to give up. Slowly, his body grew stronger. He gained weight and fought through the treatments.

Even though he lost hearing in one ear and had trouble seeing out of one eye, he survived — and finally, he began to thrive.

A New Chapter Full Of Love

Once he was healthy, Beaux experienced an entirely new life. He was no longer the dog left in the yard. Now he had blankets, toys, and someone who loved him deeply.

He followed Jamie everywhere, often pressing his nose to the glass if she stepped outside — a reminder of how much he valued being indoors.

He also met Riley, a sweet 13-year-old golden retriever mix. The two dogs became fast friends. Riley helped Beaux adjust, and Beaux helped Riley stay young.

They play together, sleep side by side, and act like they’ve known each other forever.

A year has passed since Jamie brought Beaux home, and the change is remarkable. He’s joyful, energetic, and endlessly affectionate.

He’s even helped foster kittens and dogs from local rescues — becoming a big brother to animals who need someone gentle to lean on.

Jamie still looks at him in awe. This dog, once discarded and nearly broken, is now the heart of her home. “He’s so full of life,” she says. And he’s finally living the life he always deserved.
