What started as an act of kindness quickly turned into a shocking discovery when a neighbor stepped in to help what they thought was just an injured stray.
The cat, now named Brewster, was spotted limping and clearly in pain before being rushed to an emergency vet clinic by a Good Samaritan.
At first, everyone assumed he had been hit by a car. But when the X-rays came back, the truth was much worse.
Brewster had been shot.
The bullet had shattered his front leg, leaving him with a severe fracture and no one to care for him.

For Brewster, this could have been the end of the road.
Without an owner to pay for his care, his only option was euthanasia.
Thankfully, North Shore Animal League America stepped in just in time.
Sharing his story on Facebook, the rescue posted an urgent plea for help.
“Brewster’s life nearly ended before it had a chance to begin,” they wrote.
“His only option would have been euthanasia unless someone was able to help… That’s where we came in.”
From there, Brewster’s journey to survival began.
He was first transported to the rescue’s Adirondack campus before being taken to their main facility in Port Washington, New York.

The medical team wasted no time getting to work, determined to save his leg if at all possible.
“They are working urgently to stabilize him and explore every option before turning to amputation as a last resort,” the rescue shared.
“Brewster suffered for days, but we are committed to his care. His recovery will take time, medical expertise, and critical resources and we will provide everything“.
The post struck a chord online, with thousands of people reacting and sharing the heartbreaking story.
Many were outraged that anyone could hurt such an innocent animal.
“Poor Brewster! Who could shoot a poor cat! I hope the perpetrator is caught and punished for this horrible abuse,” one Facebook user wrote.

Others shared their own emotional stories of helping strays who had been shot or abused, praising North Shore Animal League for giving Brewster the chance he deserved.
One commenter recalled a cat they had found years ago, saying:
“He had been shot, but thanks to a rescue group, he made it and found a home. We named him Bullet. I am so thankful for people who step in to save these little lives.”
As Brewster begins his long road to recovery, the rescue group is calling on the public to help cover his medical costs.
Between emergency treatment, X-rays, and the possibility of surgery, his care will require significant resources.
