We all know Belgian Malinois canines as brave, highly intelligent, and loyal, but even these extraordinary dogs never cease to amaze us! Eva, a two-year-old Belgian girl, demonstrated a whole new level of loyalty when she fearlessly reacted to a mountain lion attacking her owner on a hike.
Without hesitation, Eva risked her life to protect Erin, once again proving that dogs are truly the greatest companions we could ever have!

Eva Took Action To Save Erin
When Erin Wilson went hiking with her family dog, Eva, along the Trinity River in Northwestern California, she could never have imagined that she would face a mountain lion!
Out of nowhere, the wild beast lunged at Erin, scratching her shoulder. Her startled scream rang out, and that’s when Eva, her loyal Belgian Malinois, stepped in to protect her!
Despite the mountain lion being twice her size, Eva bravely jumped at the predator. The two struggled fiercely while Erin rushed to grab a tire iron for help. She began hitting the lion with it, but it all seemed hopeless.
The lion latched onto Eva’s head, puncturing her skull with its sharp teeth. Fortunately, a couple of passing motorists came to the rescue, using pepper spray to drive off the lion.
Eva Suffered Serious Injuries
Eva was gravely injured, her blood staining the ground. During the drive to the hospital, she convulsed from skull fractures and a punctured sinus cavity. This brave dog’s life hung in the balance.
She was rushed to the Redding Hospital in the Shasta Cascade region of Northern California. Despite her severe injuries, Eva managed to survive. But her recovery would be long, so Erin set up a fundraiser to cover the medical bills for her heroic girl.
For several days, Eva remained heavily sedated as the swelling around her eyes and the pressure on her skull hindered her recovery.
Eva’s Memory Lives On
After her medical treatment, Eva showed signs of recovery. She came home and returned to her normal routine, even going on walks with Erin, seemingly unaffected by her trauma.
But then, the unimaginable happened. Eva had sudden seizures overnight, and her condition quickly worsened.
She slipped into a deep coma, unresponsive to any stimuli. Tragically, her body was too weak to fight any longer, and just hours later, Eva passed away.
Erin was heartbroken when she realized her brave girl was gone.
“This world is not fair. It isn’t kind. This wasn’t supposed to happen. Our baby is gone, and now we have no one to come and be held with us. We don’t have our kisses. I don’t have my girl’s incredibly soft fur. She was so delicate. So dainty,” Erin wrote on her Instagram.
Though Eva’s life was tragically short, her memory will live on forever. She was Erin’s guardian angel, protecting her most selflessly. You will be remembered, sweet girl.
