Sometimes, stories come along that are almost too heartbreaking to believe. This is one of them.
Rescuers had already closed their doors to new arrivals.
Funds were low, carers were stretched thin, and nearly 270 cats were already in their care.

A mother cat and her tiny kittens had been found in someone’s yard.
Nobody claimed her, so she was taken to a local vet clinic.

She was also given a name in those final moments: Liberty. A fitting name for a cat whose last gift was freedom from pain.
Liberty passed quickly, almost as if she knew her kittens were now safe.
Afterwards, her rescuer carried the tiny kittens to the car, tears streaming.
They cried out for their mother, now orphans but not abandoned.
The promise was clear.
