Rescuers Saved A Kitten From A Pipe — But The Discovery Just Feet Away Broke Their Hearts

Early last Saturday morning in Euless, Texas, a man named Hugh Morris woke up to a familiar sound.

It was just after 5AM when he heard faint cries echoing from outside his apartment.

The sound was unmistakable, a kitten was meowing. But this time, it wasn’t just wandering nearby.

It was trapped.

Hugh, who lives at the Mandolin Apartments, knew immediately where the cries were coming from.

This wasn’t the first time he’d heard a kitten stuck in an unusual place.

He followed the sound and traced it to a cable junction pipe.

Somehow, a tiny calico kitten had slipped inside, and now she was stuck with no way to climb back out.

“I knew what it was as soon as I heard it,” Hugh later told Love Meow.

“I’d rescued one from the pipes before, but this kitten was further in. I just couldn’t reach her.”

After trying everything he could think of to get her out, Hugh realized he couldn’t do it alone.

That’s when he contacted Mid-Cities Community Cats, a local rescue group based in Fort Worth.

Volunteer Krista Kulesza responded immediately and reached out to the Euless Fire Department.

What happened next turned into a full-on community rescue mission.

When firefighters arrived, they quickly realized this was going to be trickier than they thought.

The kitten had crawled beyond the 3-foot mark inside the narrow pipe, and none of their equipment could spot her.

Even the maintenance crew’s camera wasn’t long enough to reach where she was hiding.

With time ticking and the kitten’s cries growing fainter, Animal Control officer Larry joined in. He managed to borrow a special tool from the city’s Public Works department.

It was their best shot at reaching the kitten. Everyone from firefighters to apartment staff to local volunteers, gathered to help.

Finally, after several tense attempts, the team succeeded. The kitten was carefully pulled out from the pipe, unharmed and alert.

It was a huge relief to everyone watching. The Euless Fire Department later said it was a true team effort that brought the kitten to safety.

As a precaution, the cable junction pipes were sealed afterward to stop any more curious kittens from getting stuck again.

The tiny calico, now safe in loving hands, was transferred to a nearby shelter for medical care.

She was given a name, Mandy and treated to a warm bath, food, and the comfort she had been missing.

But the story didn’t end there.

Hugh remembered seeing other kittens in the area just a few days before. It was likely that Mandy had siblings and a mother, still nearby.

Rescuers wasted no time. That same day, they went back out searching the neighborhood, determined to find the rest of the feline family.

Hugh took the lead again, checking every corner of the apartment complex.

After about 45 minutes of searching, he discovered another cable junction box and inside, more kittens.

Just like Mandy, they’d been hidden away, possibly moved there by their mother.

He handed them over to Mid-Cities Community Cats, who quickly provided medical care.

The kittens were diagnosed with mild upper respiratory infections, but nothing serious. They were put on medication and monitored closely.

Meanwhile, the rescue team set up a trap nearby, along with food, hoping the mother cat would return. Later that same night, their patience paid off.

The mother cat was caught safely and reunited with her kittens.

Mandy, the little calico who started it all, was overjoyed to see her siblings again.

And when their shy mum finally joined them, it was clear they were meant to be together.

Jennifer Saldaña from Mid-Cities Community Cats confirmed that the whole family is now safe, warm, and well-fed.

“Now we know where Mandy gets all her beauty from,” she said.

It’s not every day you hear about a kitten being rescued from deep inside a cable pipe.

But thanks to the quick thinking of one resident, the dedication of a local rescue group, and the help of the fire department and animal control, Mandy and her family are safe and ready for a much brighter future.
