It’s a shame that we humans often overlook just how intimidating shelters can be for animals.

We typically focus on the dedicated staff, who work tirelessly to provide the best care for every furry resident. However, there’s only so much they can do.

Animals crave individual attention from their humans. Even a simple playdate can make a world of difference.

Sadly, our friend Lancer didn’t get to enjoy that for long.

Searching for a Companion

Like any other pup, Lancer believed his time at the shelter would be a brief adventure.

Sadly, after spending seven long months at the City of Mobile Animal Services in Alabama, he began to feel a little down in the dumps. But this sweet boy wasn’t about to let his spirits sink!

Lancer held on to hope and decided to take matters into his paws, determined to make a change.

“Whenever someone strolled by his kennel, Lancer would stretch out his paw, eager for a friendly touch,” shared Mary Kate Hale, the digital media manager for the City of Mobile Animal Services, with The Dodo.

Whenever a potential adopter visited the Alabama shelter, Lancer would bounce over to his kennel door, standing tall on his back paws, trying to fit as much of his adorable self through the opening as possible.

Then, he would give a little wave with his charming paw, hoping someone would take notice and instantly fall head over heels for him.

All this sweet boy longed for was to find his place in a loving family finally.

“Lancer is famous for his adorable nature and his passion for peanut butter. After a fun round of zoomies, you can catch him napping in a cozy spot, sprawled out like a little frog,” Hale shared.

Hopeful Moments Are Just Around the Corner

One day, Lancer spotted a volunteer approaching his kennel, and he instinctively knew just what to do: he flashed his cutest face and wiggled his paw through the fence.

The volunteer couldn’t resist his adorable charm and quickly snapped a photo. Knowing it would brighten everyone’s day, they shared the photo along with Lancer’s story on social media.

Naturally, the world fell head over heels for this sweet boy. “Within 24 hours of being posted on Facebook, Lancer caught the attention of his future dad, Nick,” Hale shared.

Just one glance at that adorable photo and Nick knew right away that Lancer was a good boy. He felt in his heart that this sweet pup would be the perfect addition to his family.

After meeting him in person, Nick knew it was meant to be, and he sealed the deal, giving Lancer the love and attention he had always dreamed of.

Since then, this precious pup has been thriving in his new home. He spends his days playing, snacking, and enjoying life to the fullest.

And the sweetest part? Whenever Lancer reaches out his paw, Nick is right there to hold it!
