Animal rescuer David Loop has helped countless cats and kittens, but even he could not believe what he saw the day he met Javie.
He and his team had been alerted to a newborn kitten that had been abandoned by his mother.

They knew the little one would need help, but no one expected just how tiny he really was.
When David finally held him, his heart nearly stopped.
Javie was the size of a thumb. His umbilical cord was still attached, his eyes were closed, and his entire body fit into the palm of David’s hand.
He weighed only 76 grams, barely enough to be considered viable.
It was heartbreaking to imagine what his chances of survival had been without intervention.
The reason Javie was so small soon became clear.
The vet explained that he had been born prematurely, which left him weaker than most kittens his age.
It was also likely the reason his mother had abandoned him.
