1960 Oldsmobile 98 Convertible

Oldsmobile’s flagship offering for 1960 received a complete restyle that retained the underlying chassis and rooflines from the previous year. The 98 lineup consisted of four body styles, with the convertible being the rarest at just 7,284 units from roughly 59,000 total series production. The 4-door Holiday hardtop proved most popular with just over 27,000 examples built.

Stretching 220.9 inches in length, the 98 featured a Wide-Stance chassis with distinctive Air-Scoop brakes at all four corners. Chrome trim and a wide grille defined the exterior styling, while the spacious interior offered luxurious appointments befitting Oldsmobile’s top-of-the-line model.

Power came from the 394 cubic inch Rocket V8 engine producing 315 horsepower at 4,600 RPM and 435 lb-ft of torque. The Hydra-Matic automatic transmission was standard equipment on the 98.

Available features included power steering, power brakes, electric windows, and air conditioning, with prices ranging from about $3,890 for the Celebrity Sedan to $4,360 for the convertible.
