1972 Alfa Romeo Giulia 1300 Super

Alfa Romeo introduced this twin‑carburettor 1300 variant in 1970 as the Giulia 1300 Super, essentially combining the GT 1300 Junior’s engine with the four‑door Giulia saloon body. Designated Type 115.09, it borrowed the twin‑carb 1290 cc engine from the GT 1300 Junior coupe while maintaining the practical sedan layout.

The 79 CI aluminum‑alloy twin‑cam four‑cylinder featured two double‑choke horizontal carburetors producing about 88 horsepower at 6,000 rpm. Power reached the rear wheels through a five‑speed manual transmission with a floor‑mounted shifter.

Four‑wheel disc brakes with servo provided confident stopping power, while independent front suspension and a live rear axle delivered the sharp handling characteristics that defined the Giulia range.​

Inside, a wood‑veneer dashboard housed circular instruments, reflecting the sporting intent within a compact family sedan package. Weight of roughly 2,200 pounds allowed brisk performance, with top speeds in the region of 100 mph.

The 1300 Super was incorporated into the rationalised Giulia Super 1.3 range from 1972, and total production of these 1.3‑liter Super variants ran to many tens of thousands of examples.
