1976 Cadillac Castilian Fleetwood Estate Wagon
Traditional Coach Works Company converted a very limited number of Fleetwood Broughams into luxurious estate wagons for the 1976 model year, with just 11 examples generally attributed to that single year.
Based in Chatsworth, California, the coachbuilder replaced the rear bodywork behind the doors with custom fiberglass sections designed by Gene Winfield, featuring a slanted fastback-style liftgate and a stainless steel Targa band that distinguished these Castilian conversions from other wagon attempts that often resembled hearses.
Built on the Fleetwood Brougham’s 133-inch wheelbase (three inches longer than the Sedan de Ville), these estate wagons retained the sedan’s full luxury appointments while adding genuine utility.
The 500 cubic inch Cadillac V8 produced approximately 190 horsepower, paired with a three-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission.
Standard equipment included power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, and the full complement of power accessories expected in Cadillac’s flagship sedans.
With a new price around $30,000 (equivalent to well over $130,000 today), the Castilian was aimed at an elite clientele and is often associated with high-profile owners, including entertainer circles of the era and daredevil Evel Knievel.
