1988 Porsche 911 Turbo (930) Slantnose
Inspired by Porsche’s dominant 935 Group 5 race car, the factory Flachbau (slantnose) option transformed the already dramatic 930 Turbo into something even more aggressive.
Option code M505 for the US market featured sloped front fenders with pop-up headlights replacing the 911’s traditional fixed lamps, resculpted rocker panels (often called boxed rockers), triple-blade air inlets in the rear fender leading edges, and a special steering wheel with an inset Porsche cloisonné crest.
The conversion wasn’t cheap. M505 added roughly 60 percent to the cost of an already expensive 930 Turbo, justified by the labor-intensive, largely handcrafted process performed by Porsche journeymen at the factory.
Mechanically, slantnose models retained standard 930 specifications: a 282-horsepower turbocharged 3.3-liter flat-six driving through a four-speed manual transmission, four-wheel ventilated and cross-drilled disc brakes, Bilstein gas-pressure shock absorbers, flared fenders, and the distinctive rear tray spoiler.
Between 1987 and 1989, approximately 630 M505 examples were delivered to American buyers.
