1939 Cadillac Series 75 Limousine

Fleetwood Metal Body Company provided exclusive coachwork for Cadillac’s flagship Series 75, replacing the mixed Fisher and Fleetwood offerings used on earlier senior models.

The 141-inch wheelbase matched dimensions shared with Cadillac’s V-16 chassis, accommodating multiple limousine configurations including seven-passenger touring sedans, eight-passenger imperials, and formal sedans with division windows.

All-steel turret-top construction featured an integrated vee windshield, while exterior styling reflected Cadillac’s late-1930s pointed-nose theme with fine-pitched vertical grille bars and bullet-style parking lamps.

Power came from Cadillac’s 346 cubic-inch L-head V8, which employed hydraulic valve lifters, five main bearings, and a single Stromberg carburetor to produce about 135 bhp at 3,400 rpm. Improved fuel quality allowed compression ratios of roughly 6.35:1 compared to earlier specifications.

Power was delivered through a three-speed selective synchromesh manual transmission with column-mounted gearshift controls. A hypoid rear axle and semi-elliptic leaf spring suspension formed the mechanical foundation.

Production totaled 2,069 units for the 1939 model year, representing a recovery from the previous year’s economic slowdown. Pricing ranged from $3,105 to $5,250 depending on body configuration.
