This bird… steps out of the Bornean rainforest like royalty in shadow. Glossy midnight feathers ripple with deep blue and purple sheen, crowned by a sharp crest and framed with vivid crimson skin around the face. Shy and ground-dwelling, it moves quietly beneath towering dipterocarp trees, feeding at dawn and dusk where light barely reaches the forest floor. Endemic to Borneo and increasingly rare, its presence is a living signal of an intact rainforest—vanishing where the forest falls silent.
