1931 Ford Model AA Camper

Ford’s Model AA represented the company’s heavy-duty commercial truck platform, built on a chassis designed to handle substantial loads and challenging work environments. The Model AA featured a longer wheelbase and reinforced frame compared to the standard Model A passenger cars, making it ideal for commercial applications ranging from delivery trucks to fire engines.

Power came from Ford’s proven 200.5 cubic-inch four-cylinder engine, producing around 40 horsepower through a three-speed manual transmission. The twin rear wheels provided additional load capacity and stability under heavy use.

This particular vehicle showcases an interesting post-production transformation into a recreational camper, complete with enclosed living quarters, kitchenette facilities, and convertible seating arrangements. An extending roof system provides additional interior space and ventilation and the conversion suggests the growing popularity of automotive camping during the mid-20th century.

Such modifications demonstrate the versatility of Ford’s commercial chassis and the ingenuity of owners who adapted these sturdy trucks for leisure use, creating unique rolling homes for touring and outdoor adventures.
