1926 Vauxhall 14/40 Princeton Tourer

Representing Vauxhall’s strategic move into the mid-market segment, the Princeton Tourer offered buyers the engineering excellence of larger Vauxhall models at roughly half the price of the famous 30-98.

Introduced in 1922 and produced through 1927, approximately 3,500 examples of the 14/40 were built, providing an affordable alternative that maintained the company’s reputation for quality construction.

The Princeton body style featured classic British touring proportions with a fold-down canvas top and distinctive wire-spoke wheels, which were introduced in 1924. This attractive open touring configuration provided seating for four passengers while maintaining a sporting appeal.

Power came from a 2.3-liter four-cylinder side-valve engine producing 40 horsepower in the improved LM specification introduced in 1924. The drivetrain evolved throughout production, gaining a four-speed transmission in 1924 and front-wheel brakes in 1926.

Performance included a top speed approaching 60 mph, making it an appealing choice for enthusiasts seeking Vauxhall refinement at a price of approximately £595 in 1924.
