1971 Dodge Charger R/T

A total of 2,659 Charger R/Ts left the factory for 1971, placing it among the rarer offerings in Dodge’s performance lineup that year. Restyled with a split grille, tunneled rear window, and an integrated rear spoiler, the third-generation Charger adopted a fuselage-inspired design that departed noticeably from the iconic 1968-70 body.

It rode on a 115-inch wheelbase B-body platform with torsion bar front suspension and a live rear axle on semi-elliptic leaf springs. Power front disc and rear drum brakes were standard.

The R/T came fitted with the 440-cubic-inch Magnum V-8 rated at 370 horsepower. Buyers could step up to the 440 Six Pack (three two-barrel Holley carburetors, 385 horsepower, 490 lb-ft of torque) or the 426 Hemi at 425 horsepower.

A three-speed TorqueFlite automatic was standard, with a four-speed manual available. Only 99 Six Pack and 63 Hemi R/Ts were assembled, making those variants particularly collectible today.
