1947 Talbot-Lago T26 Record Cabriolet (by Figoni et Falaschi)

French luxury automotive artistry reached extraordinary heights in the hands of master coachbuilders during the late 1940s. The T26 Record emerged from this creative period as Anthony Lago’s first postwar masterpiece, debuting at the 1946 Paris Salon with advanced engineering wrapped in stunning custom bodywork.

Most examples featured elegant factory coachwork by Joseph Figoni, while a select few received even more dramatic treatments from renowned carrossiers like Figoni et Falaschi.

The flowing Art Deco styling incorporated sweeping pontoon fenders, concentric-ringed disc wheels, rear fender skirts, and ornate geometric grilles that gave these cabriolets an unmistakably theatrical presence.

Underneath lay sophisticated mechanicals including front independent suspension with coil springs and Wilson preselector gearboxes.

Power came from Lago’s newly developed 4.5-liter inline-six featuring a single overhead camshaft and hemispherical combustion chambers fed by Zenith-Stromberg carburetors. This advanced engine produced 170 horsepower in standard form, with racing versions capable of over 200 horsepower.
