Sweet 12-Year-Old Pup Saved from Euthanasia, But Doctors Uncover Heartbreaking News

We can all agree that senior pups deserve nothing but the best love and care.

Though their energy levels may not be what they once were, these wise, older dogs still find ways to fill our lives with warmth and joy.

That’s why it’s so important for us to give them the best life possible. Unfortunately, many senior pups don’t get that chance.

Because not everyone is ready to welcome an older dog into their home, many of them end up spending their final days in shelters. Serenity, a sweet Pitbull mix from an Arizona shelter, was one of those pups.

There’s Always Hope

Serenity, a 12-year-old pup, was diagnosed with a mammary mass. Sadly, due to her age and the fact that no one stepped forward to adopt her, the Arizona shelter had no choice but to place her on the euthanasia list.

However, when Love Them All Sanctuary + Rescue, a rescue based in Scottsdale, learned about Serenity’s situation, they didn’t hesitate to step in. They immediately opened their doors to her, offering a lifeline when she needed it most.

They were not only ready to provide her with the medical treatments she required but also committed to giving her the loving and healthy home she truly deserved.

The Scottsdale rescue acted quickly, rushing Serenity into surgery to remove the mammary mass. Upon examination, it was discovered that the mass was a bleeding melanoma tumor weighing heavily on her fragile body.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of caring humans, the rescue was able to cover all the costs of Serenity’s medical care.

Recognizing that Serenity needed a loving family to help her through her recovery, the rescue placed her in a happy foster home, where she could feel the warmth and love she truly deserved.

Taking It One Step at a Time

A week has passed since this sweet girl arrived at her foster home, and while she was settling in happily, her recent doctor’s appointment brought some difficult news.

Her tumor had returned as malignant.

The vets are still uncertain about what the next chapter in Serenity’s story will bring, but one thing is clear: every single human around her is giving their all to fill each day with love, happy memories, delicious meals, and cozy naps.

I’d like to take a moment to share some important information about Mammary tumors in pups.

This condition is relatively common, especially in unspayed female dogs, as they are a prevalent form of neoplasia.

If you notice that your pup may have a mammary tumor, please remember that only 50% of these tumors are cancerous, while the other 50% are non-cancerous.

Not every lump means your dog has cancer; only malignant tumors are associated with mammary cancer.

The recommended and most effective treatment for this condition is surgery. However, as was the case with Serenity, sometimes the tumor may return after surgery. Fortunately, additional surgeries can be performed to help your pup regain its health and happiness.

So, if you notice something unusual, don’t panic. Instead, schedule an appointment with your vet!
