1979 Ruf 3.4-Litre CR Coupé

Based on a 1979 Porsche 911SC, this car was converted by Ruf Automobile at their Pfaffenhausen facility in 2014 into CR specification, the naturally aspirated counterpart to Ruf’s turbocharged CTR “Yellow Bird.”

The distinction matters: where the CTR made headlines in 1987 with a 211 mph top speed, the CR delivers similar visual identity and Ruf mechanical thoroughness through a free-breathing 3.4-liter flat-six rather than forced induction.

The exterior carries Yellow Bird-style body components, giving the narrow-body 911SC the wide, aggressive stance associated with that car. Mechanically, the 911SC’s original drivetrain was replaced with a Ruf five-speed gearbox and limited-slip differential.

Ruf’s standing as a recognized automobile manufacturer (a status granted by German authorities in 1981) gives conversions like this legitimacy beyond typical aftermarket tuning.
